With the decrease in letters in the post, Royal Mail are making changes to the future of letter deliveries.
The New Delivery Model for Second Class Letters
Royal Mail is launching a new delivery model for their 2nd class letter service.
As of 2026, second class letter deliveries, including advertising mail and catalogues. This service will now be delivered every second day (excluding Sundays), on a rotating weekday schedule.
This could look like: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, for one week, and Tuesday and Thursday for the next. There will be no weekend deliveries for 2nd class post.
Is Royal Mail Changing 2nd Class Parcel Delivery?
No – Royal Mail are not changing the delivery dates for their second class delivery service. Parcels will continue to be delivered up to 7 days per week.Â
The changes to the letter delivery service are intended to allow improvements to the parcel delivery service.Â
Why is Royal Mail Making Changes to second class mail services?
With declining volumes of letters, postcards and bills being sent via post, yet an increase of parcels, Royal Mail needed to make changes to its service to reflect this. The new changes will improve delivery consistency and save up to £425 million each year, working to preserve their uniform pricing model.

First Class Mail and Special Delivery services remain unchanged and will be delivered Monday – Saturday.
